Date: Friday, August 14th
Time: 6:30 pm
Where: Vibrant Valley Farm, Sauvie Island, Portland
The story of food starts with the farm and the farmers. Our LET um EAT Takeover dinner at Vibrant Valley Farm will bring Seeders, Feeders and Eaters right to the source in a celebration of history, incredible farmers and excellent food and drink!
Sauvie Island, once called Wapato Island by the Chinook Indians who originally settled there, has a deep history in food and agriculture. The menu will be inspired by some of their traditions. The Chinook Indians used cedar to build their houses, each with their own fire pit. There will be a fire pit as you walk onto the farm at Vibrant Valley and our chefs will be cooking over cedar. Other ingredients and influences from the island’s story include fowl, an incredible wild rice from Sauvie Island Wild Rice, and foraged foods.
While embracing the history of the island, we will also be celebrating the amazing women and farmers of Vibrant Valley Farm, who have recently set roots there. On their third property in as many years, Elaine Walker and Kara Gilbert are excited to really settle into the fertile soil of Sauvie Island. Together Elaine and Kara bring a number of years of experience, a great amount of knowledge and an incredible passion for food, education and doing their part to better the food system. As close friends, the LET um EAT team admires the drive of each of them and often looks to them for farming advice. This is really what The Collective is all about.
Join us for this very special farm dinner at Vibrant Valley Farm on Friday, August 14. You’ll be greeted with a glass of LET um EAT’s Notorious Pinot Gris, enjoy a walk around the farm and then a wonderful five course meal in the field.
