Did you know that only 6 breweries in all of Oregon have never made an IPA? The Commons Brewery in SE Portland is one of them. Since The Commons started in Mike Wright’s garage, they’ve focused on Belgian and German-influenced ales that are moderate in alcohol, refreshing and unique in character: it’s the every man’s beer. While they do find inspiration in Northwest grown ingredients, they put even more emphasis on collaborating with other producers and artisans in their community that are also passionate about what they do. They’re making quality beer that they want to drink and having a good time doing it.
For the past 3+ years The Commons Brewery and tasting room has been at SE 10th and Stephens. While the goal has always been to have an integrated tasting room and factory to help develop connection between consumers, equipment and the people working in the brewery, the current space is a bit too tight to work well. Last June, Mike signed an agreement on a building at SE 7th and Belmont and is building a new facility that is over three times the size of the current one. They still plan on having the tasting room and factory in one, but this will give everyone a little more breathing room, to say the least.
Almost one year ago, the LETumEAT team connected with The Commons, when we sourced spent grain from for the farm. We’ve been enjoying their ales ever since, but recently reconnected with an idea to collaborate on a Takeover dinner: what a great way to promote people who supported us from the start.
The new facility is set to open before the end of March, however the next LETumEAT Takeover is offering the unique opportunity to sneak preview the new space. Come help us celebrate their growth over some beers and brats! See the full menu below.
Tickets are still available for the LETumEAT Takeeover @ The Commons Brewery on Monday, March 2 at 7 pm. The menu is 5 courses and $65/person. Optional beer pairings and beer/wine by the glass available to purchase. Make your reservations below!
