2016 James Beard Award Winners

The 2016 James Beard Awards Gala, hosted by Carla Hall, took place at Lyric Opera of Chicago last night, Monday, May 2. Since 1991, the James Beard Foundation has been recognizing culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields through the James Beard Awards. The ceremony has grown in distinction and notoriety over the years and is often dubbed the “Oscars of Food”. Award winners receive a certificate and an engraved medallion but no cash prizes.
Below are the 2016 winners in each category, from Outstanding Restauranteur and Best Restaurant Design to regional Best Chef awards.
On April 26 the Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards, hosted by Ming Tsai, took place at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Those results are also included below.

A few days before the awards, Eater published an interesting piece with their predictions on who would take home the medal in each category based on historical results of the awards event, plus their thoughts on who actually deserved to win. Turns out they were correct with their predictions and endorsements less than 50% of the time, but it was a fun gamble for them to make.

Being the “Oscars of Food” means there is no lack of glitz, glam and of course amazing afterparties and food to go along with that. Check out #jbfa on Twitter and Instagram to get a glimpse of what went down in Chicago after the awards show last night.
